Getting the beta
How do I join?
Email support@moosequest.net from the address you’d like the TestFlight invite sent to. If there’s room in the beta, the invite arrives from Apple’s TestFlight.
What do I need?
An iPhone with iOS 17 or later, an Apple Account with two-factor authentication turned on, and Apple’s free TestFlight app.
Does everyone on the trip need the app?
Yes. Everyone reacts in the app, so every member needs an iPhone and their own beta invite. There’s no Android or web version.
Why does the app say “Avenue”?
Project Avenue is a working name. The app uses the short version for now.
What does it cost?
It’s free during the beta. No prices have been announced.
Signing in
How do I sign in?
With Sign in with Apple.
Can I sign up with email?
Not yet. New accounts use Sign in with Apple. If you already have an account, you can also sign in with a link sent to your email.
Should I share my email or hide it?
Either works. If you choose Hide My Email, Apple gives the app a private relay address instead of your usual one. That matters for invites, so see “My friend can’t see the trip” below.
Invites
How do I invite people?
In your trip, add each person by email. You can type the address or pick it from your contacts. They get an email saying you added them, and the trip appears in their app once they sign in with that same address.
My friend can’t see the trip.
The invite has to match the exact email their Apple sign-in uses. If they chose Hide My Email, that’s a relay address Apple created for them, not their usual one. On their iPhone it’s listed under Settings > [their name] > Sign-In & Security > Sign in with Apple. Ask them for that address and invite it.
Can I send an invite link instead?
Not in this beta. Invites go by email address.
Reacting and the plan
What do In, Could, and Pass mean?
In: I’d like to do this. Could: fine either way. Pass: not for me. If you change your mind, tap Undo last.
Who sees my reactions?
Nobody. Other members don’t, and neither does the organizer. The organizer sees who has finished reacting, not what anyone chose. One caveat: on a trip for two, the plan can hint at what the other person chose.
Sitting out an optional stop on the plan is a separate choice. On a trip of three or more, the organizer sees how many people are going to that stop, so sitting it out lowers the count. The organizer isn’t told who sat out.
Where do the ideas come from?
They’re generated with AI from your trip details, like the destination, the dates, and how the organizer described the trip. They can be wrong or out of date, and a place may be closed or seasonal. Check hours and availability before you go.
When does the plan appear?
On a group trip, once everyone has finished reacting and said they’re in, or when the voting window runs out, which is 48 hours after voting opens. On a trip just for you, right away.
Can I add my own idea?
Yes, from a link. Paste a link to a place or a page into your trip, or use the Share button in another app and choose Avenue. The app reads the page and turns it into an idea. It can get details wrong, so check what it made.
Will I get notifications?
Not in this beta yet. Open the app to check on your trip.
Does it book anything or handle money?
No. There are no bookings or payments in the app.
What the beta doesn’t do yet
- Android or web versions
- Signing up with email (new accounts use Sign in with Apple)
- Invite links
- Notifications
- Diet, allergy, or accessibility preferences
- Swapping or replanning individual stops
- Trips that cover more than one city
- Booking or payments
Privacy
What data do you collect?
Your account details from Sign in with Apple, what you put into your trips, pseudonymous usage analytics, and crash reports. Pseudonymous means the analytics are tied to a random account or trip ID, not your name or email. The details are in the beta privacy policy.
Is there anything I should keep out of the app?
The beta runs on a test server, so don’t enter anything sensitive, like health details or passport numbers. Everyone on a trip can see the trip’s group notes, including the accessibility notes.
What does “Diagnostics recording is on for this beta build” mean?
On some beta builds we turn on screen recording to see where people get stuck. While it’s on, the app says so on the sign-in screen and in Settings. Text you type is hidden from recordings, but other things on screen, like trip names and people’s names, can be captured.
Deleting your account
During the beta, we handle account deletion by email. The Delete account button in Settings doesn’t complete the deletion in this build yet.
Email support@moosequest.net and tell us the email address on your account. If you used Hide My Email, include that relay address. We’ll confirm with you before we delete anything. The privacy policy explains what is deleted and what stays for a short time, such as backups.
Removing your profile photo. Remove photo hides it in the app, but in this beta it doesn’t erase the photo. The stored copy stays at its web address, so anyone who already has that address can still open it. If you want it erased, email us.
Deleting a trip. Deleting a trip removes it from the app. If you also want its records erased from our servers, email us.
Reporting a bug
- In the app: take a screenshot, and TestFlight offers to send it to us as feedback with a note. You can also send feedback from the app’s page in TestFlight.
- Crashes: if TestFlight asks whether to share crash details, saying yes helps us find the cause.
- By email: write to support@moosequest.net with the details listed under Contact.
Screenshots can show other people’s names from your trip, so crop them if you’d rather.
